Camp Fiona. Named for the first dog.
Camp Fiona is a 501(c)(3) dedicated to educating students, training and taking care of the dogs, and eventually running a camp for students who want to see if one of the therapies is a field they might go into. Named for the first dog.
Camp Fiona is named for the first dog I had working with special needs children. They called her Fiona because she loved to get dirty. Biggest heart I ever knew in a dog. Didn’t matter who you were — she always made time.
One day she and her sister slipped a cracked door and ran. The sister came home. Fiona was at the front of the apartment complex, playing chase with a three-year-old. She loved food. She loved children more. That’s why the camp is named for her. Everyone who works this dream has to have a heart like that.
I was stuck 18 years not doing what I was supposed to be doing. I prayed. I told God I couldn’t do it by myself. Then the doors opened — the classes, the internship, the certification. Fiona lost her back legs and still never gave up the fight. She lived 16 years. If it wasn’t for her I might not be writing this. Times get hard. A dog’s heart heals, and God listens.

The land
Georgetown to Temple. A kennel for the dogs. Then a camp for students.
We are looking north now — ground from Georgetown to Temple, Texas — to train and take care of the dogs. Eventually that land holds a camp — so students can see the therapies and find out if this is a field they might go into. Han Solo and Sabine Wren wait on the kennel before the next litter. Volunteers will be needed when the building starts.
